Director of Career Strategy & Development

Overview

The Director of Career Strategy and Development leads the school’s strategic vision for continuously improving internship, co-op, and job placement for both undergraduate and graduate students. This role is responsible for the supervision and coordination of all Career Development programs and activities, so as to ensure that students are given opportunities to discern their career path, explore and obtain career opportunities and acquire applied learning experiences to maximize career placement prospects. This position is directly responsible for The Busch School job, internship, and co-op placements and alumni/ employer engagement.

 

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $80,000-90,000.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the team of career development professionals in career coaching and employer engagement, providing strategic direction, vision, and execution of strategy.
  • Provide and maintain effective placement support for students and alumni through career coaching, preparation of workshops, placement assistance, career events, online tools, networking opportunities and career development programs.
  • Manage the required career development sequence for undergraduate business students- improving content (integrating virtue and Catholic Social Teaching topics), engagement, and effectiveness yearly
  • Establish departmental policy and procedures in alignment with institutional and business school mission
  • Measure department programs and events/activities’ impact on student experience and outcomes- including but not limited to the Sales Program, ELEVATE Program, For-credit Internships, Career Discernment Series, On-Campus Recruiting, Employer
  • Partnerships/Sponsorships, CUA on Wall Street, Career Coaching, etc.
  • Contribute career development-focused talks, workshops and events to advance business school’s growth in recruiting and retention initiatives as needed; collaborating with Academic Services and Student Experience teams
  • Supervise and manage all career development staff, programs, and activities across campus and off-campus locations to ensure the highest quality service to students, alumni and businesses; as well as provide consistency of approach, message, and procedures for effective communications, teamwork, and customer service.
  • Provide and maintain an effective experiential education program for students and alumni through internships, co-ops (ELEVATE program), work-study jobs, and part-time employment opportunities.
  • Manage the Career Discernment Series (x99’s) – a required 4 course sequence for all undergraduate business students including scheduling, selection and training of Career Coaches/ Counselors, TA’s and Peer Coaches to support the execution of these courses.
  • Manage the departmental budget.
  • Coordinate with other departments, faculty and staff, to identify and implement joint initiatives which would introduce new, career development opportunities and benefits to students.
  • Periodically submit to the Dean recommended goals, strategies, plans, reports, and budgets.
  • Assist in the preparation and publication of the annual Career Outcomes Report, analyzing data and extracting insights for data-driven decision-making.
  • Regularly build and develop strong relations with faculty, staff, and university departments for the purposes of increasing communication regarding industry trends, cross-programming, and the effectiveness of experiential programs.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships and relationships with business, industry and non-profits for the purposes of remaining current with industry trends and hiring needs as well as networking to ensure maximum opportunities for business students and alumni.
  • Maintain an on-going database of employer and alumni contacts- contributing to advancement and alumni relation’s database.
  • Ensure that career information and resources are current, remaining abreast of trends in career education, employment, the economy, and in affiliated business and industry to determining most effective approaches for long term and short term growth and student success in internship and job placements- keeping up with changing trends
  • Develop and execute marketing strategies for Career Development to reach undergraduates, graduates, parents, alumni, and donors effectively, affecting admissions, retention rate, donations, and alumni relations.
  • Ensure career info is made available to the entire Catholic U community through Handshake, LinkedIn/ Social Media, website, in class workshops, emails and flyers, etc.
  • Contribute data and analysis in support of AACSB accreditation standards
  • Participate as a member of NACE in conferences, workshops, and panel discussions
  • Participate in LEPE’s annual conference to engage with experiential learning professionals
  • Collaborate with Vendor Partners and negotiate contract agreements as needed: ie: in need of a CRM system
  • Collaborate with the business school’s Academic Success office and Student Experience office on retention initiatives
  • Career Coach Master’s level students, Work individually with incoming graduate students in the summer prior to matriculation to search for meaningful internships, career coach during the 9 month program providing one-on-one coaching opportunities as well as in class teaching for career strategy.
  • Assist in recruitment process and decision making for MSBA program to determine if the services provided can help that individual obtain goals.
  • Oversee the MSB internship program, supervising and evaluating student performance in their internships.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for the Department with other offices on campus with respect to internship and employment activities and opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with Center for Careers and Academic Success (CACS) to support their mission and share resources and tools.
  • Other related duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum two years professional experience, preferably in a university environment, career coaching, teaching, and/or business training (leadership learning and development).
  • Leadership, management and supervisory experience needed.
  • Client relations and/or sales experience is a plus.
  • Experience implementing large-scale programs and analyzing impact needed.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership capability.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to problem solve and manage a fast-paced team.
  • Collaborative professional and a strong communicator desired.
