Journals Coordinator

Overview

The Journals Coordinator II spends 20 hours per week serving as the staff editor for the Catholic Historical Review. As such, the journal coordinator copyedits all materials for the journal. In addition, for 15 hours per week, the journal coordinator maintains the day-to-day relationships between the editors of the journals, typesetters, printers, and fulfillment services for a number of journals, including the Catholic Historical Review. The coordinator is responsible for the financial reporting and payments associated with this journal portfoli

 

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $48,000.

Responsibilities

  • Works with distributor, customer service representatives, journal editors, typesetters, and printers to coordinate the subscription, printing, and shipping process for the press’s academic journals
  • Coordinates a smooth transition to the distributor when the Press takes on new journals
  • Tracks monthly and yearly finances for the journals department and paying bills through procurement/AP
  • Ships claims and back-issue purchases
  • Organizes and inventories back issues
  • Sells and places journal ads
  • Formats and uploads journal issues to Project Muse
  • Carries out journals-related special projects, such as journals marketing and communications
  • Copy edits all materials to appear in the Catholic Historical Review
  • Serves as staff editor for the Catholic Historical Review. Copy edits articles, book reviews, and other publishable works. Traffics and coordinates manuscript flow.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • One year of experience in a scholarly publishing environment or related editorial processes in an academic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well in a professionally diverse environment.
  • Six months of experience copyediting.
  • Experience managing projects is desirable.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Experience editing theological, religious, or Catholic philosophy is preferred.
  •   Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.

  •   Working knowledge of desktop publishing, specifically InDesign.

  •   Must have working knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style.
