The Assistant Director will ensure that facilities are well-maintained, safe, and responsive to the changing needs of students; the programs and services are conducive to the formation of community, foster individual student responsibility, and promote the engagement of students in the academic, spiritual, and personal development within campus life. Under the direction of the director, the Assistant Director of Fitness, Recreational Sports and Wellness will support the operations and services of The Eugene I. Kane student fitness center, recreational sports program, outdoor recreation, and wellness initiatives. They will work closely with the director to develop, administer and promote university-wide recreational programs and services, manage the fitness facility, equipment, and student staff as well as manage and facilitate wellness initiatives. The assistant director will assist in supervising the part-time intramural coordinator to facilitate recreational sports programming.
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: Up to $53,000
Management of Operations for the Kane Fitness Center:
● Direct the ongoing maintenance and safety evaluation of the facilities and equipment for optimal access and use.
● Educate and enforce the guidelines for proper use of equipment.
● Monitor equipment use as well as perform and schedule routine maintenance.
● Schedule appropriate repairs and replacement for equipment.
● Maintain a clean, professional image and environment to support student fitness program initiatives.
● Maintain all appropriate documentation for current and future equipment planning.
● Hire, schedule, train and manage personal training staff and group fitness instructors.
● Oversee personal training program.
● Create and promote Group Fitness class schedule
● Interview, hire, schedule, train and manage 30+ front desk assistants
● Organize front desk operations, communication to student staff and fitness center patrons
Fitness and wellness education and programming:
● Provide fitness program leadership including but not limited to management of essential programs and services, operating schedules, facility coverage.
● Responsible for publications, newsletter, websites, support services, and promotions, for all events and in close collaboration with other colleagues and service providers.
● Facilitate outdoor adventure program Cardinal Adventures, coordinating with vendors and promoting and facilitating with students.
● Ensure fundamental Policies and Procedures are written, established, organized and effectively communicated to participants and to the campus community.
● Establish campus-wide partnerships to coordinate, develop, and enhance a holistic and inclusive approach to fitness and wellbeing-related program implementation.
● Ensure that events are evaluated and assessed by staff and students to promote growth and progress for future events.
● Curate and maintain the Fitness, Recreational Sports, & Wellness website, and social media channels with up-to-date information.
Intramural and Club Sport Operations:
● Maintain and approve policies and rules for intramural sports. Communicate deadlines, policies, and vital information to participants.
● Hire and manage intramural referees for each intramural sport league.
● Schedule and coordinate the use of facilities and equipment for intramural sports and club sports practices and games.
● Assist with club sport home game day operations.
● Schedule athletic training coverage for all club sports home games.
● Assist with the training of club sports on the policies and procedures with budgets, travel, matches, and event programming.
● Monitor budgets, fundraising, and fiscal practices of club sports and intramurals.
A Bachelor’s Degree with one (1) to three (3) years of experience in a fitness or recreation related position required. Student or graduate experience accepted. Position requires frequent evening and weekend hours. Must be able to lift 50lbs. Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED use required. Must obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED Instructor certification within one (1) year of hire date.
