Rare Books Librarian

Overview

The Rare Books Librarian manages the Rare Books collections under the direction of the University Archivist & Head of Special Collections, including preservation, acquisition, cataloging, description, digitization, access, research assistance, and promotions. 

 

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position is $55,000-$60,000/yr. 

Responsibilities

  • Accessions and catalogs rare books materials. Researches items of interest to consider for acquisition.
  • Provides onsite and remote reference services and classroom lessons, using rare books materials.
  • Manages the preservation and digitization of rare books materials.
  • Researches the rare books collections for educational outreach via social media, educational websites, and promotional blogs.
  • Creates physical and online exhibits that will highlight rare books materials.
  • Participate as a professional member in the University Libraries with academic status, in shared collegial decision making and planning; participate in committees and ad hoc projects contribute to the library profession and engage in professional development activities; participate in and contribute to professional organizations and publications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree
  • Experience with rare books handling procedures
  • Experience with general and rare books cataloging procedures and best practices
  • Working knowledge of computers, databases, and Hypertext markup Languages
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with Google drive
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work well with public
