To protect persons and property on the campus of Catholic University by utilizing police skills and patrolling techniques to maintain a safe environment. The sergeant contributes to forming policies and procedures for the Department; administers enforcement of local, state, and federal laws; and University rules, regulations, and policies. The sergeant liaises with surrounding law enforcement agencies, local police, government officials, community leaders; advises campus administration on law enforcement and public safety issues; and maintains positive relationships with the University’s
faculty, staff, students, and guests.

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $55,967 - $59,967. 

• Provide faculty, staff and students highly efficient and professional protection and service.
• Provide supervision in conjunction with the Lieutenant and all officers on duty.
• Directs, coach, mentor and leads subordinates in enforcing criminal laws and University policies and procedures.
• Supervises special assignments and details as required.
• Review reports; compile time worked for other officers assigned to a tour of duty. Ensure accuracy on daily logs.
• Attends training classes in leadership, patrol techniques, crime prevention and awareness that enhances skill sets offered to the supervisory position realizing that it is more desirable to deter crime than react to it.
• Communicates and maintains good relation with faculty, staff, students, public, other law enforcement agencies and public officials.
• Ensure the enforcement of DC laws as they occur on campus property (including arrests & stop and frisk). Be willing to carry and maintain firearm certification.
• Promote an attitude of friendliness helpfulness, tact, understanding and caring in the performance of assigned duties.
• Assist with the implementation and development of training programs and opportunities for members of the department.

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Completed one year of satisfactory service, previous law enforcement experience will be considered. 
• Must have ability to obatin a Special Police Officer or Campus Police Officer License. 
• Must have successfully completed the Campus Law Enforcement Academy (250 hours), or an equivalent law enforcement academy. 
• Must have job knowledge and demonstrated strong leadership abilities.
• Must posses a current, valid driver's license.
