Program Manager, Internal Communications

Overview

The Program Manager is responsible for all communications that are intended toward internal audiences to help build a strong university community. The position requires candidates to excel at writing and nurturing strong, collaborative relationships. The successful candidate must be committed to the mission of The Catholic University of America.

Responsibilities

• Inform internal university stakeholders, including university departments and schools of events, priorities, and announcements.
• Work with various departments within the university to develop coordinated messaging and content for internal stakeholders.
• Responsible for delivering university-wide email communications via the Axios platform.
• Research and write internal communications, primarily email newsletters.
• In coordination with marketing and the content teams, develop, write, and publish editorial content regarding internal efforts to carry out the university’s mission.
• Serve as the editor for "This Week," the university's internal newsletter, and others as needed.
• Participate in The Catholic University of America’s crisis and emergency communications plans.
• Work with campus partners to develop internal communications products.
• Assist in coordinating university-wide events by managing and creating content for email communications, website updates, and social media. Develop event schedules for use across departments to highlight key dates and goals leading up to the event.
• Serves on university committees and project teams as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field.
• Two to three years work experience in a Public Relations or media relations & communications role.
• Relevant experience in a university, government, political, non-profit, or agency setting preferred.
• Exceptional knowledge of current digital and traditional communications tools and tactics, and trends.
• Substantial experience using web content management systems (CMS).
• Proficiency in web design, ability to direct graphic design.
• Knowledge of SEO, web design principles and trends, and accessibility standards.
• Internet operations and functionality.
• Experience using Google Workspace applications, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and Acrobat Pro.
• Understanding of current web-related regulations, laws, and trends.
• Ability to write and edit copy, or manage copywriting.
• Distills complex information for audiences.
• Strategic, critical thinking to understand business needs and audience desires to produce compelling communications.
• Approachable, collaborative, results-oriented, problem-solver who can both provide and take direction well.
• Strong communication skills, both visual, written and verbal.
• Excellent organizational, presentation and communication skills.
• Must be able to juggle several projects at one time.
• Thrives in a creative, collaborative environment.
• Ability to organize/lead projects requiring integration of efforts across colleagues, university entities and external vendors/partners.
