Overview

The Laboratory and Teaching Technology Specialist reports to the Associate Dean for Administration and is responsible for Coordinating CSON Microbiology and Anatomy and Physiology Lab activities in collaboration with faculty from the Biology Department.

 

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $28.62 - $32.96 hourly

Responsibilities

  • Plans and organizes lab setup and take-down for microbiology and anatomy and physiology labs according to directions of faculty member teaching the lab.
  • Collects, prepares, cleans, and stores glassware and other lab equipment.
  • Stocks and prepares media, reagents, chemical solutions, and stains.
  • Removes and properly disposes of expired supplies.
  • Maintains consumables inventory; provides a list of needed supplies to the Department of Biology for procurement.
  • Tracks and coordinates maintenance and maintenance contracts of all equipment such as the autoclave, water purifier and lab refrigerators.
  • Responsible for daily maintenance of autoclave. Changes autoclave filtration at regular intervals as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Coordinates shipping and receiving of deliveries, including science lab equipment, simulation equipment, and classroom technologies.
  • May assist CSON students with experiments and procedures according to faculty member instructions.
  • Ensures that all three labs (microbiology, anatomy & physiology, and virtual reality) maintain a clean, orderly, and professional appearance.
  • Ensures all science lab equipment (e.g. microscopes, autoclave, incubators, water purifier, ventilation systems) is used correctly and following manufacturer guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain current lab guidelines for safe and effective use of the lab, including lab technologies, airflow, drainage systems, electrical requirements.
  • Develop, manage, and continually evaluate the budget to support lab teaching.
  • Train student peer tutors in collaboration with the Center for Academic and Career Success and provide tutoring as needed for Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology, Pathophysiology and math.
  • May assist in setting up virtual reality suite as part of lab class.
  • Collaborates with other CSON staff and university Facilities on the operation of building functions such as opening and closing automated classroom walls.
  • Collaborates with Biology Department on planning for lab education and problem solving barriers to efficient and effective teaching and learning.
  • Assists research and laboratory personnel with experiments and procedures. Ensures that all three labs (microbiology, anatomy & physiology and virtual reality) maintain a clean, orderly and professional appearance.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, healthcare, technology, life sciences, communications, or related fields.
  •   2 years previous experience in a setting with similar technology

  •   Experience working in either a chemistry or microbiology lab is essential as well as working with classroom and laboratory technology.

  •   Entry-level audiovisual technology, and entry-level clinical experience (i.e.- EMT-B, CNA, LPN, PTA, Pharm Tech, Scribe).

  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Drive, Word, Excel, and Zoom.
