Undergraduate Academic Adviser

Overview

Provide academic advising to both face-to-face and online undergraduate students enrolled in MSPS programs and joint CUA programs managed by MSPS. Primary focus is on supporting students enrolled through the DC Futures scholarship program as well as non-DC Futures students.

Position is a one-year term position, eligible for annual renewal contingent on both employee performance and funding availability.

Responsibilities

  • Assist admissions staff in advising prospective students on degree selection.
  • Advise students about course selection.
  • Monitor student success. Coordinate academic interventions as necessary.
  • Help students engage in academic, co-curricular, and social life of the University.
  • Plan, execute and evaluate student orientation events and online resources
  • Plan, execute and assess programs to meet stated goals for student retention and degree completion. 
  • Assist in the creation of advising resources (web pages, workshops, print materials, etc.
  • Consult and build strategic relationships with academic support services, Office of the Dean of Students, MSPS offices, and other departments and schools.
  • Serve as backup to other MSPS advisers when necessary and assist with administrative task for non-credit programs
  • Serve on university committees as assigned
  • Represent MSPS with an engaging, helpful, team-oriented demeanor consistent with the university’s mission and Roman Catholic character

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree is required with at least one (1) year experience in advising or teaching undergraduate students.

The Academic Adviser must have demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Office.

Training or demonstrated experience in in academic advising, academic policy oversight and student development.
